Overview

To visit the San Ignacio Ruins, we will travel a total distance of 480 km (round trip) along National Route Nº 12. We will enjoy the landscape of the region, passing through small towns, villages and plantations. We will arrive at the imposing Jesuit Ruins (located 240 km. from the city of San Ignacio). Puerto Iguazú). They were built in the XVII century, during the stay of the Jesuit Missionaries in this region.

At the present time San Ignacio Miní is the best preserved of the Jesuit missions of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in Argentina. It was founded by the Jesuit priest San Roque González de Santa Cruz to evangelize the Guarani natives.

The church, the Casa de los Padres, the cemetery, the houses and the town hall are distributed around a central plaza. In the construction of San Ignacio, the local stone, red asperon, was used in large pieces.

In turn, the city of San Ignacio is a tourist center with exciting landscapes such as the Teyú Cuaré Rock, the Yabebirí River and natural beauties scattered throughout its extension, framed by the majestic native flora that permeates every corner.

We will be accompanied by a local guide, who will explain the construction, life and customs of the Guarani Indians and their catechization by the Jesuits.

On the way we will visit the Precious Stone Mines in the city of Wanda. We will find varieties of quartz found in these deposits, mainly agate, amethyst and jasper that constitute specimens of exceptional beauty. The tour through tunnels and small galleries carved in the volcanic rock allows us, in some establishments, to appreciate the original deposits of these valuable minerals and to interpret the processes that gave rise to them.

At the end of the tour, we start our return trip, thus ending the excursion to San Ignacio Ruins.
