Up to 7 days
Punta Tombo is a wildlife reserve located in the province of Chubut. It contains one of the most numerous continental breeding colonies of the Magellanic penguin. In 2015 Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area was created with the aim of benefiting and protecting these colonies.
To start our full day excursion in Punta Tombo, in the morning we set off for the penguin colony of the Punta Tombo Natural Protected Area. After a two-hour drive along Patagonian roads, we arrive at the reserve. We stay there for no less than three hours to be able to visit the trails of the Penguin Colony and the Punta Tombo Interpretation Center with enough time. The latter consists of 3 large areas:
1) A first service area where the parking lot, the control box and a shaded overhang are located.
2) A central area where the cafeteria is located, with imposing windows that allow a panoramic view of the Janssen Bay where Punta Tombo is located.
3) A service area not intended for the general public, which includes a house for scientists, the gamekeeper's house, cisterns and machine rooms, and a reserve tank sector.
It also has 5 rooms: "Territory Room", "Penguin Room", "Sea Room", "Land Room" and "Conservation Room". There we will be able to learn about local issues that will make the tour a more complete experience.
Lunch is free at the passengers' expense and we can make use of the facilities of the place. It has a restaurant, restrooms and trails to interpret the Patagonian winds. In the afternoon we return to Puerto Madryn.
