Cafayate is a town in the province of Salta. It is located in the heart of the Calchaquí Valleys, surrounded by multicolored mountains. It is known worldwide for having the highest wine route in the world. It is 2000 meters above sea level. In addition, its colonial mansions, its geological formations and its colors, its renowned wineries and the exquisite local cuisine stand out.
To get to know this unique locality, we begin our tour through the Lerma Valley. We will cross tobacco fields and colonial architecture towns such as Alemania. This used to be the end point of the Belgrano railroad.
Then, we enter the Quebrada del Río Las Conchas. There the curious formations eroded by the wind and water will be the main attraction: the dunes, the toad, the bishop, the devil's throat, the castles, the amphitheater, among others.
Then we continue along National Route 68 arriving in Cafayate, the youngest city of the Calchaquí Valleys. It is internationally renowned for its wines, particularly the exquisite Torrontés. It can be tasted in the visits to its wineries, whether artisanal or industrial. This particular native grape produces a fresh and aromatic wine, with moderate acidity, a smooth texture on the palate and distinctive aromas of peach and apricot.
After visiting this spectacular and incomparable place, we set off on our return trip to Salta along the same route. But this time we will do it with a completely different sunlight, whose illumination will change the unique landscape in the ravine completely.
